Traveller information
Tuvalu is a tiny independent nation comprised of several small islands, mostly thin strips of land, atolls and coral reefs, deep in the South Pacific. These remote islands are something of an oddity. Tuvalu is the fourth smallest country in the world and is home to no outwardly outstanding natural beauty, historic architecture or much sightseeing. What the islands do have in abundance is a glorious peace, most enjoyed with the friendly locals on warm evenings, reclined in a seat in the street listening to the quiet hum of the town, or on the sand, watching the sun set.
The main island of Tuvalu is but a thin strip of green in the immense blue of the Pacific Ocean, a segment of the larger Funafuti Atoll. Here you’ll find the fascinating Funafuti Marine Conservation Area, which is an introduction to the small country’s wealth of diving and snorkelling opportunities. In Funafuti, you can also find tours and some small guesthouses, the perfect relaxing place to base yourself as you explore the unexplored.
