Traveller information
Tunisia is a country in Northern Africa with a long stretch of Mediterranean coastline. With a tourism industry that was originally developed to compete with Egypt’s popular sun-and-sand resort package holidays, Tunisia’s cheap hotels, awesome beaches, rich blue seas and seafood cuisine as fresh as it gets mean it’s a great choice if you’re looking for something a little different.
Beyond its obvious coastal hotels and resorts, which offer a simple sunny holiday, Tunisia is also a land rich in culture and history. Home to the great Ancient civilisations of both Carthage and Rome, there are remnants and ruins of these people scarred into the landscape. And there is much wilderness to be explored – sparsely populated coastlines are flanked by dense forests, and to the south lies the beginning of the Saharan expanse. Traveling in Northern Tunisia and in the bustling capital of Tunis is considered safe and convenient, but tour guides will be able to show you the lesser-walked paths. When travelling in the south of the country, it is recommended you hire a knowledgable and guaranteed local guide to explore the sights.
