Traveller information
Trinidad and Tobago is a dual-island country in the Caribbean to the north of the Venezuelan coast. Diversity is key on these islands, and not only in its vibrant wildlife of unique birds. The country’s history is complicated but modern T&T has reached a resting point of scintillating variety. The music is distinctly Caribbean, the Carnivals and architecture are clearly European, and its food? A unique platter of Creole, European, Middle Eastern, and Asian cuisine combined into one of the most unique palettes of flavours available anywhere on Earth.
Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago’s capital, is home to the country’s world-famous Carnival. A festival of colour, food and music, it’s not to be missed. It’s also a city of mixed heritage, and that’s something of an understatement. Visit the ‘Magnificent Seven’ along the Queen’s Park Savannah, a string of stunning Colonial-era mansions, then head to the Ariapita Avenue, where you’ll find a relaxed Caribbean atmosphere and delicious restaurants with Trini cuisine. Over on Tobago, there is less development for tourism. There are much quieter beaches, such as the obviously Caribbean Pigeon’s Point, and a verdant rainforest for the more spirited explorer.
