Traveller information

Saint Lucia is one of the Windward Islands in the eastern Caribbean and is blessed with picturesque beaches and abundant rainforests, giving it its well-earned reputation of a natural paradise. The Pitons, two volcanic peaks, are the island’s landmark, while its characteristic beaches offer unbeatable views. Try Reduit Beach, the biggest beach on the island situated on its north coast, where after a gentle swim you can enjoy fresh fish at one of the restaurants selling local food.

To get close to nature, try snorkelling at the Anse Chastanet reef where you can admire coral, squid, moray eels, parrotfish and more, while an excursion to Turtle Reef will reveal hawksbill and green turtles, as well as many varieties of fish. Hire a car out to Sulphur Springs to see a steaming volcano close-up – you can even drive right through it to get an idea of its size and latent power.

The capital Castries offers fresh local produce and crafts, and if you’re in the party mood, visit the fishing village of Gros Islet on a Friday night where you can indulge in local beer and rum and enjoy barbecued fare in a festive atmosphere.
