Traveller information
New Zealand is an island nation in the Pacific Ocean. Split across two islands, the North and the South, New Zealand is a place of near-mythical natural beauty. With biodiversity which is impressive for a country of its size, the New Zealand flightless Kiwi bird (the symbol of the nation) and the dramatic landscapes that gained fame as the setting for the ‘Lord of the Rings’ films are just a few of the cherries on top. Its tourist facilities are modern and its transport network means access to splendid natural wonder is as easy as getting to the shops.
And New Zealand isn’t just about the epic hikes and unspoiled landscapes, beyond the modern yet peaceful capital city of Wellington on the North Island, there is also the dynamic native Maori culture still present in NZ. You’ll hear snippets of Maori music, perhaps attend a Maori feast, and most definitely hear the traditional language. New Zealand’s cities make great bases for exploring the great outdoors. Recommended hikes will take in the famous Mt. Victoria, or you could tackle one of the two ‘Great Walks, the Heaphy and Milford tracks.
