Traveller information
Lesotho is a land-locked country entirely surrounded by the nation of South Africa. With a friendly native population of hardy individuals who’ve survived much political meandering and brutal history, plus an average topography of a 1000m above sea level and a crazy 300 days of sunshine a year, Lesotho is a rugged, beautiful and captivating country. Much of your time in this mountain land will be spent trekking through wild landscapes, trotting on famous Bathoso ponies through forested ravines, and stopping for a quick dip in a cool waterfall.
The base place to begin your adventure in Lesotho is in the capital of Maseru. Although there is little to see or do in the city, you should stock up on supplies before heading into the wild countryside as there are few western shops further inside. Now you are ready to begin your expedition. Dozens upon dozens of fascinating treks await you, through a land that has remained unchanged for many thousands of years. Top destinations you might want to check out include the dramatic Maletsunyane Falls in Semonkong, or perhaps the undulating expanse of the Mafika Lisiu Pass, or closer to Maseru you could make the trip to the Maluti Mountains.
