Traveller information

Located in East Africa, between Tanzania and Ethiopia, Kenya is a favorite destination for adventurous travellers and wildlife lovers. With its spectacular nature reserves such as the Masai Mara, a place known for the presence of the “big five” of Africa: the lion, the leopard, the elephant, the rhinoceros and the buffalo, and its beaches bathed by the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, it is a place not to be missed. Among the country’s main attractions is the Old Town of Lamu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is considered the first Swahili settlement in East Africa, founded in 1370. Also noteworthy are the Giraffe Manor boutique hotel, where guests live with a group of giraffes, and the city of Nairobi, known as the “green city under the sun”, capital of the country and one of the main cities on the continent.

Ebola

On 1 August 2018, an outbreak of Ebola was declared in Béni territory, North Kivu Province in the Democratic Republic of Congo. On 11 June 2019, the Ugandan government confirmed an outbreak of Ebola in Kasese District in western Uganda. Kenyan authorities have put in place additional screening measures at some airports and border crossings in Kenya for those arriving from affected areas. The latest updates can be found on the WHO website.

Cholera

There has been a cluster of cases of cholera in Kenya since April 2019. To minimise the chances of contracting cholera, you should drink or use only boiled or bottled water and avoid ice in drinks.

Malaria, Dengue and Insect-borne Diseases

Malaria, dengue fever and other insect-borne diseases are endemic in Kenya. You should take measures to avoid insect bites during your stay in the country.
