Traveller information

Djibouti is a tiny country on the East African coast, a region known as ‘The Horn of Africa.’ Despite its size, Djibouti offers up some of the world’s weirdest and most wonderful landscapes. From the saltiest lake on earth to limestone chimneys billowing steam, there are dry arid wilds, dusty scrubland, and imposing canyons. Ecotravel is the way forwards in Djibouti, as much of the country is undeveloped. For exploration through a safe part of Africa, Djibouti is a great place to pull on your boots and get walking.

Djibouti City is the capital and most developed part of the entire country. Due to the country’s important placement in regards to the Suez Canal, once the busiest shipping route in the world, the French colonized and developed Djibouti with impressive marble architecture and Colonial-style promenades. There is a fascinating mix of French plazas and Moorish arcades where you can find delicious cuisine, whereas the African quarter is where you find your fruit markets and spice sellers. To escape the heat of the city, visit the Gulf of Tadjoura and its Les Sables Blancs beach. Dive beneath the waves and keep your eyes open for whale sharks.
