Traveller information
The Cook Islands consist of 15 pieces of paradise dotted in the Pacific Ocean. Remote, scenic and idyllic, whether you like adventurous holidays or relaxing by the pool, the Cook Islands are definitely a destination to add to your bucket list. Immense coral reefs, deep blue lagoons, and beaches straight off a post-card round off the friendly hospitality of the locals, a brewing cosmopolitan air to the small cities, and the serenity of the island’s still-wild interiors.
Rarotonga is the largest of the islands and a great place to base yourself while you explore the region. Many of the top attractions can be found close to Rarotonga, including the Muri Lagoon, a large expanse of turquoise water, so shallow you can walk at places, providing perfect snorkelling opportunities. Off of Rarotonga, another island that you should visit is One Foot Island, located in Aitutaki’s lagoon. This scenic place is undeveloped except for a lone cabin and provides some of the finest snorkelling and beach-lounging experiences you’ll ever find. For a glimpse of the Polynesian past of these islands – a culture that still persists in many ways – visit the island of Muri where you can see traditional stilt villages.
