Traveller information

The country of Australia is so vast that it’s also a continent. Home of kangaroos, wallabies and platypuses, the country is wild, stunningly beautiful, and home to iconic landmarks and cityscapes. There’s plenty Down Under for everyone, whether you want to party the night away or to watch the stars from uninhabited outback wilderness.

Many of Australia’s most famous sights are natural, such as the immense Ayers Rock, set in Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, a World Heritage-listed sandstone monolith which towers majestically above the surrounding landscape. Byron Bay’s spectacular beaches draw thousands of visitors every year. In Queensland, the Daintree national park encompasses rainforest, reef and aboriginal villages. Just off the coast of Queensland lies the Great Barrier Reef, a 2,300km-long ecosystem so vast that it can be seen from outer space.

Apart from inland capital Canberra, Australia’s major cities are set on the country’s coast. Visitors can’t miss Sydney and its glorious harbour, home to the iconic Sydney Opera House, or Melbourne and its laid-back cafe culture. Head to Hosier Lane for a sense of the city’s vibrant, rebellious art scene, with a wall full of street art that’s constantly changing.
