Traveller information
Tajikistan is a country located in Central Asia, its rugged territory mainly composed of mountainous areas and hidden villages tucked between its peaks. Due to this almost inhospitable terrain, much of Tajikistan’s population continues to live as they have done for centuries, relying on the land and continuing to power through the harsh seasons. However, for adventurous travellers, the mountains provide awesome hiking trails, lakes of a dozen colours, and a seclusion that can only be found in the so-called ‘Roof of the World.’
Your trip is likely to begin in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan. With a population of only 800,000, the city is rather small, but you can visit the Ethnography Museum to gain a better idea of the country’s long and complicated history before heading into the mountains. Next, take the Pamir Highway out of Dushanbe. Known as one of the most iconic highways in the entire world, this highway may be covered in potholes, riddled with wandering yaks, and present you with some of the sheerest drops you’ve ever seen, but it’s utterly beautiful. Your destination is the Fan Mountains, a striking mountain range of red hues, tiny green hamlets, and hiking trails to suit everyone from the wobbling amateur to seasoned pro.
