Traveller information

Liberia has had its fair share of difficulties, but despite the turmoil, the country is full of life, a young energy, a sort of persistent optimism which has seen its friendly people through some of the toughest hardships imaginable. As the country re-opens to tourism it’s a brilliant chance to lounge around on Liberia’s awesome West African Coastline, hike through one of the most unique national parks on the continent, and relax in sleepy, laid-back towns.

Its capital, Monrovia, is a city of one million friendly people with a vibrant street-life but few major tourist attractions. Robertsport is located a short ride up the coast and home to a beachbum-friendly surfer vibe with awesome and relatively empty waves. Expect burning heat, golden sand, and a couple of welcoming surfing lodges. Beyond Liberia’s small city and small towns there is the must-visit Sapo National Park, primarily a dense rainforest and home to pygmy hippos and elephants. Ravaged somewhat by the brutal civil war that raged in Liberia, the rainforest, like the people who live beyond it, has bounced back with impressive vigour. Plenty of private tours can be arranged for an adventure into this truly wild spot.
