Traveller information

Guinea may not be your typical tourist holiday destination, but it offers sophisticated travellers opportunities to experience an adventure of a lifetime. This small West African country possesses a beauty of its own. The capital Conakry is testament to Guinea’s French colonial history and also home to the beautiful, central Grand Mosque, the Cathedrale Sainte-Marie and the busy fishing port of Boulbinet. You’ll also find several excellent French, African and Middle Eastern restaurants in the city centre.

If your curiosity about Guinea leads you to head off the beaten track, you’re sure to be enthralled by the country’s diverse wildlife, rolling hills, rainforests and amazing landscapes. Guinea has been popular with offroad driving enthusiasts for several years but offers discriminating visitors a lot more. French is the most common language, although, like many other African countries, a number of local languages and dialects are also widely spoken. Some of the top tourist attractions include the beautiful waterfalls of Basse Guinee, Moyen Guinee, and the Fetore waterfalls and stone bridge in the Labe region. If you harbour ambitions to visit deserted, palm-fringed islands, Les Iles de Los are a short boat ride from Conakry and a major attraction for locals, expats and tourists.
