Idyllic beaches, spectacular wildlife and delicious cuisine will welcome you to this beautiful island in the Indian Ocean. Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo is a paradise for food lovers. At Galle Face Green on the seafront, you’ll find carts selling coconut-based dishes, samosas and the typical Sri Lankan delicacy of hoppers – pancakes filled with eggs or curry. Other attractions in this bustling city include the Buddhist Gangaramaya Temple with its sacred Bodhi tree, the floating market at Pettah and the colonial style National Museum.

For stunning beaches, try Trincomalee on the north-east coast. As well as beautiful white sand and palm trees, you will also find this the perfect place to watch blue whales, visit the ornate Hindu Sri Pathrakali Amman Koli temple or snorkel around the nearby Pigeon Island.

If you want to spot some of Sri Lanka’s iconic wildlife, Yala National Park in the south-east of the country is the ideal place. The world’s largest concentration of leopards make their home here, along with elephants, buffalo, sloths and many other species of animals and birds, amid the stunning scenery Sri Lanka is famous for.
