New Caledonia

New Caledonia is an overseas territory of France in the western Pacific Ocean. Inhabited by peoples of many descents, there is still a distinctly European air in the capital city of Noumea thanks to French architecture and wide seafront promenades. Alongside these flitters of continental elegance, there is also the warmth of hospitality that only small-island life can bring. Surrounded on all sides by a strikingly blue lagoon, recently made into a World Heritage Site, the number of gorgeous beaches and natural sites to explore in New Caledonia is enough for any holidaymaker.

Besides its excellent seafront wining and dining, popular attractions also include the scenic Amedee Lighthouse and the Aquarium des Lagons Nouvelle Caledonie, who work closely with animal conservationists in the area. Next up is to head to one of New Caledonia’s many different islands. Lifou Island is one of the most picturesque, with turquoise waters and laid-back beach huts. You should also visit Ille des Pins, or the Isle of Pines, for walks through aromatic pine forests which burst onto beaches with clean white sand.
