Malay, Chinese, Indian and European influences come together to create Malaysia’s unique culture. This fascinating destination is home to vast rainforests, breathtakingly beautiful beaches, and vibrant, modern cities.

The capital of Kuala Lumpur’s most iconic building is the 451-metre-tall Petronas Twin Towers, flanked on either side by smaller skyscrapers. The city is a hub for commerce, and there’s a lively culinary scene here ranging from hawker stalls to luxe restaurants. Colourful Chinatown, thronged with street food vendors, is especially worth a visit. British colonial influence is very visible in the city, and includes landmark structures such as the Sultan Abdul Samad Building.

British influence can also be felt strongly in the Cameron Highlands, where rolling tea plantations are best enjoyed with a spot of afternoon tea, or fruit from the region’s numerous strawberry farms. The towering peak of Gunung Kinabalu rises high into the sky, and affords excellent views from its rocky slopes. Head to beautiful, colonial George Town for arts and culture, or to Borneo to see orangutans and lush, verdant rainforest. The former trading port of Kuching is a great base for exploring many excellent national parks in the region.
