Cameroon

Wildly diverse and culturally rich, Cameroon is sometimes known as “Africa in miniature”, as it offers up all the best features of the continent. Whether you fall in love with its rolling green plantation hills, dramatic waterfalls, or vast sweeping deserts, Cameroon has landscapes as varied as its population, making for a fascinating destination.

Both Cameroon’s capital, Yaoundé, and its biggest city, Douala, are stepping stones towards some of the country’s many ecotourism sites. A little way out of Douala is Limbe, home to many animal species at the Limbe Wildlife Centre and to Mount Cameroon, the tallest mountain in West Africa. Its Atlantic coastline is resplendent with sandy swimming beaches and sizzling seafood restaurants. In Foumban, you can’t miss the stunning, early-20th-century Palais Royal, home to the Bamoun dynasty’s 19th sultan and an informative museum which expertly tells the story of the region’s past. Western Cameroon is made up of rugged terrain, and home to numerous active volcanoes. Game reserves are scattered around the landscape, and there’s plenty of opportunities to spot wildlife. In the north of the country, a dramatic landscape is characterised by savannah, desert and vast lakes. It’s inhabited by over 50 different ethnic groups, many of whom still live in traditional villages. Southern Cameroon is home to lush, tropical rainforest, and pristine beaches covered in soft golden sand.
